This luxurious villa located in Kastro, Sifnos, Greece, was used as the grape pressing facility of the Kastro Village until the fifties. The villa’s bedroom on the upper house was where the grapes were pressed by foot. All the rooms on the lower part of this villa used to be small individual storage rooms were the different types of “Moustos” fermented in order to become the local wine.
The family bought the villa in the early seventies in derelict form. Most roofs were down and some of the supporting walls did not exist. By 1974 the upper house was ready and three years later the adjoining storage rooms became the lower house.
The blueprints for the restoration were made by the famous Greek Architect Nikos Valsamakis. The house has been presented in various magazines like House Beautifull, Inside and the Greek edition of Architectural Digest. It has been visited and enjoyed by important people including two Greek Prime Ministers, important Greek and International scholars and writers, as well as fun and sun loving international friends of the family. Detailed accounts from the house visitors and their experiences can be found in the house guestbook.
